June 9/24
Good Morning,
It’s been a while since I last updated my site. Life has changed over the past while with our family. My wife is now in dementia care which leaves me more time to work on rods. So, there are one 6', two 7'6" and three 8'6" rods on the bench. |
Now to the rod building. I was
hoping to a 9' 0" 2wt.on flowing water but the fall fishing got in the way.I had some time to
work on rods over the past months plus some commissioned rods others soaked up
the time however, I did get two rods completed for listing on the site.
Another rod was built for pike fishing. An 8'6" for a 8 weight. It
is one powerful stick. It’s success as a fishing rod spawned another three
that are in construction now. |

Rod Serial # 018421 – 3 weight
I was looking for a shorter bamboo rod for those little streams we all like to fish. Starting with a Payne 98 taper, it was modified for the scalloped hollowing process and the taper was smoothed slightly. The rod casts a 3 weight great in my lawn test the other day. |

This rod is one of two rods that were “Scalloped Hollow”.
Utilizing the same taper for a 3 piece rod. The swing weight saving is substantial.

Heavier Trout or Lake Rods
This is a series of rod taspers that have been designed to cast 6 weight lines. Personally, 6 weight lines cover all my needs. When I fish lakes, I generally have two rods strung ready to go. One with a floating line with either a floater, hover or rate 2>6 sinking line. |
This rod taper is from Hoagy Carmichael’s book on Evertt Garrison. It is a linear taper and casts a very nice loop. The rod, I think, would be called a medium action. |

Rod Serial # 029919 – 6 Weight
This taper was created by west coast angler John Bokstrom. John’s taper was designed for cutthroat fishing in the Harrison River and sloughs of the Fraser River when the Coho fry emerge. This rod throws a 6 weight line with authority. This first rod of this taper I built was a request for Mrs. Denny for her husband. The Denny’s ran the best fly shop Ive ever been into. Several years alter I was contracted to build another for a family member of the Dennys. I’d forgotten how much I like this rod and made three of this taper. Two of them have already found homes. I use two of them for lake fishing. |
